Q: I have a dock on the Bay, what can I do to help?
A: You can help by:
Q: How do I get my $500 investment in an Oyster Hotel back?
A: The Maryland government offers a dollar-for-dollar
tax credit of up to $500 on the purchase of any oyster flotation cage. You must be a Maryland waterfront property owner and file Maryland taxes. The tax credit is right on the
502 tax form.
Q: Is the price of an Oyster Hotel still $500 outside the state of Maryland?
A: No! The price outside of MD is $250 plus shipping. In Maryland, Oyster King Technicians visit each installation 4 times a year to clean the cage, change filters, and write a report on the growth and general health of the site's oysters. If you are on the bay in Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania , or DC, or elsewhere in the US, you will have to do the work yourself.
Q: How many oysters need to be put back into the Chesapeake Bay in order to return the Bay to the way it was 50 years ago?
A: 20 billion oysters would do the trick if they were left alone and not harvested commercially or privately. A sustainable fishery could easily be built and maintained using the aqua cultural technology that Oyster King and others are presently using.
Q: Who do I call if I see an individual or business involved in a practice that is damaging to the Chesapeake waterways?
A: We suggest that you contact the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. You can lodge an anonymous complaint.
